Loan Deal Secured
Chelsea has reportedly reached an agreement with Roma for the loan transfer of outcast striker Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku, who has not been assigned a shirt number at Stamford Bridge, is set for his third stint under manager Jose Mourinho.
Pay Cut Confirmed
Lukaku is expected to take a significant pay cut, with reports suggesting that he has agreed to reduce his yearly wage from £17 million to £7 million. This reduction will apply not only for his season at Roma but also for the remaining two years of his Chelsea contract.
Release Clause
Chelsea has included a release clause of £37 million in Lukaku's loan move. This means that, next summer, the former Manchester United star could potentially make a permanent move for a fraction of the £97.5 million that Chelsea paid Inter Milan for his transfer in 2021.
Mixed History with Mourinho
Despite experiencing mixed fortunes under Mourinho at both Chelsea and United, Lukaku seems willing to give it another try with the Portuguese manager at Roma. Lukaku confirmed over the weekend that he would be joining the Italian club.
Disinterest in Playing for Pochettino
Lukaku made it clear to Chelsea's chief Mauricio Pochettino that he did not want to play under him. In return, Lukaku has been training with the club's Under-21s since his return from his loan spell at Inter.
