Chelsea boss Graham Potter BOOED by Brighton fans as he returns to Amex for first time since leaving for Stamford Bridge

GRAHAM POTTER was booed by Brighton fans on his return to the Amex Stadium.

The 47-year-old left the south-coast club last month after being offered the vacant Chelsea job following Thomas Tuchel’s sacking.

The Blues moved swiftly to secure their man, announcing him as their new head coach just 24 hours after Tuchel’s exit.

Potter spent three years with the Seagulls, guiding them to a record ninth place in the Premier League last season.

But Brighton supporters were clearly not willing to forget the manner of his departure as they made their feelings known ahead of their clash with Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

When Potter stepped out in front of the Amex crowd he was booed by sections of the home fans as his return to the club was marred by mixed emotions.

Former Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella was also booed by the home fans after his summer move to Chelsea for a huge £62million.

And there were even chants of “Potter, what’s the score?” after Brighton took an early lead through Leandro Trossard.

When Potter left for Stamford Bridge earlier this month, he asked for forgiveness from the Brighton faithful.

He said: “This has been three wonderful years with a club that has changed my life and I want to take a moment to say goodbye to all of you who have made it such a special period of my career.

“I bid farewell to a great club and one that will always mean so much to me and my family.

“For some I recognise that the change that comes so suddenly in football can be hard to accept.

“I may not be able to persuade you all to forgive my departure – but I would at least like to take the chance to say thank you.”

Chelsea are unbeaten in nine games since Potter’s arrival in early September.

By contrast, Brighton have not won in five since new manager Roberto De Zerbi took over.
