FRANK LAMPARD is hoping to give first choice Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga some competition by signing Crystal Palace shot stopper Vincente Guaita.
The Spaniard has pricked the ears of the west London club having conceded just 24 goals in 22 games for The Eagles so far this season.
It is being reported that Chelsea’s goalkeeping scout has already approached Guaita to enquire about a potential move.
This comes due to the fact that it seems the current number two, Willy Caballero, may well leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
However, the Blues will have to deal with the fact that a number of other clubs are also interested in the Palace man.
Getafe, Valencia and fellow English side Manchester City are all said to be in for the Spaniard.
Pep Guardiola’s side believe Claudio Bravo could well be on the way out too in the summer, so they will be looking for a back-up to Ederson.
Kepa has faced a wave of criticism from Chelsea supporters as he currently has the worst save percentage of any Premier League keeper that has played more than 1,000 minutes.
And the pressure was compounded on him further after he was deemed to easy to beat in his side’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in midweek.
However, in a press conference on Friday, Lampard insisted he was not looking in the transfer market right now.
He said: I am not looking at it now. I am not affected by criticism from the outside as much. I am aware of it, not affected by it.
“It is what I want for the team and I think with Kepa he knows, hell be honest that there have been some mistakes that have cost us goals. It is the nature of it, so that needs to improve.
