Chelsea ‘considering shock Antonio Conte return days after Tottenham axe and hold preliminary talks with title winner’

CHELSEA are weighing up a shock move for Antonio Conte, reports suggest.

Conte was sacked by Tottenham last month after blasting the club’s board and players following a 3-3 draw at Southampton.

Antonio Conte is being considered for a shock return to Chelsea

But he is now in line for a surprise return to Stamford Bridge after the club sacked Graham Potter.

The Independent report initial contact has been made through intermediaries.

And providing these talks go well there could even be a meeting next week.

The Italian was the last manager to win the title at Stamford Bridge in 2016/17, but endured a disappointing title defence which cost him his job the following year.

The report suggests Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghali see Conte as someone who can “bring structure” to the squad.

It was revealed earlier this week that due to the bloated nature of the squad, Potter was forced to make some players change in the CORRIDOR rather than in the changing rooms.

Conte’s departure from Chelsea before saw him awarded £9million following an employment tribunal.

However, this would reportedly cause no issue due to this coming under former owner Roman Abramovich.

While their search for a new manager continues, Chelsea have lined up ex-boss Frank Lampard as an interim until the end of the season.

Chelsea are said to have a shortlist of at least seven coaches, with free agents Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique both in talks, with the latter jetting to London for a meeting earlier this week.

The Blues were held to a 0-0 draw against Liverpool in their first game in the post-Potter era.

They face a potentially tricky trip to Wolves over the weekend as they aim to climb back into the top half.
