Lampard explained the nature of injuries before revealing Mount would be having minor surgery, saying: “Reece had a hamstring injury.

“Mason has been carrying this pelvic injury for quite a while, so he’s been trying, but we’ve got to a stage where he will have minor surgery. Probably a four-week recovery.”

In addition to two of their main academy graduates, Lampard also revealed a knock against Kai Havertz.

He added: “Kai [is] struggling a little bit with a knee, but should be training by the end of the week.”

Chelsea‘s season has grown gradually worse and worse, culminating in the sacking of Graham Potter after he replaced Thomas Tuchel early in the season.

However, since sacking Potter on April 2, the club have failed to even pick up a single draw, scoring just once in four games Lampard has taken charge of.

It has left the club 11th in the Premier League and out of the Champions League after back-to-back 2-0 defeats to Real Madrid.

Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly closing in on the permanent job at Stamford Bridge after Julian Nagelsmann pulled out of the race.
