Chelsea join transfer hunt for £18m Sergio Reguilon after Real Madrid ace was named ‘best left-back in LaLiga’

CHELSEA have reportedly entered the race for Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon.

Everton and Sevilla are also said to be keen on the Spaniard, 23, after he impressed on loan in Andalusia.

Sergio Reguilon broke into the Real Madrid team in 2018 before a loan spell at Sevilla

Reports emerged over the weekend that the Toffees want Reguilon to replace Leighton Baines, who retired at the end of the season.

An £18million bid is said to have been launched by Everton and Sky Sports believe Chelsea will soon put forward a higher offer.

Also in the mix are Sevilla, after Reguilon made 31 appearances for the LaLiga side in 2019/20 – notching the second-highest number of key passes from open play of any defender in the division.

Reguilon was also named in WhoScored‘s LaLiga team of the season, as well as the XI of Spanish football expert Nando Vila.

An excellent season for Los Nervionenses culminates with this month’s Europa League campaign, facing Roma in the last-16, having gone unbeaten since early February.

Marca report that offers in the Bundesliga and Serie A are expected to come the left-back’s way in the coming weeks.

They believe that a move to Chelsea would be on a loan basis, potentially allowing Reguilon to choose to return to Madrid and have a fresh crack at his hometown team’s first-team.

The Blues signed Matteo Kovacic on a similar deal in 2018, eventually bringing the Croatian to West London on a £40m permanent transfer.

Pushing for Reguilon may also be evidence that Leicester defender Ben Chilwell is not coming to Chelsea.

The Foxes reportedly want £80m for the England international, under contract until 2024.

Coming back for Chilwell after a year of Reguilon could be seen as a feasible option for Frank Lampard, who is desperate to revamp his team despite qualifying for the Champions League.

Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech are already signed for £90m combined with Kai Havertz of Bayer Leverkusen thought to be on his way.
