, Chelsea legend Didier Drogba lands World Health Organisation ambassador job to promote sports for children

DIDIER DROGBA has been named a World Health Organization ambassador to promote healthy lifestyles to kids.

The Chelsea legend will take up the role to champion the benefits of sport and physical activity, with a focus on getting youngsters more active.

Didier Drogba has a track record of promoting health campaigns

Drogba said: “I am honoured to team up with the World Health Organization and support its work to help people reach the highest level of health possible, especially young people in all countries.

“I have benefited first hand from the power of sports to lead a healthy life and I am committed to working with WHO to share such gains worldwide.”

WHO stats estimate four in five youngsters do not do enough physical exercise.

The organisation says inactivity is not only bad for the body but also negatively impacts the environment, economic development and community spirit.

The 43-year-old joins current Liverpool keeper Alisson as an ambassador for the UN body.

The ex-Marseille and Galatasaray striker has dedicated himself to various health campaigns since retiring from football in 2018.

His WHO appointment follows other roles promoting healthy lifestyles, anti-malaria and HIV prevention and control.

Drogba bagged 164 goals during two spells at Chelsea between 2004 and 2015.

He won four Premier League titles and scored in the 2012 Champions League final as the Blues lifted the trophy for the first time.
