Chelsea legend John Terry ‘made the right choice’ after being forced to SELL brand new car by captain Dennis Wise

DENNIS WISE says John Terry “made the right choice” after he forced the future Chelsea legend into selling his brand new car.

Blues icon JT revealed last month that fellow legend Wise “got me round the throat” after he arrived to training in a flash new motor.

Terry, then just 19, had spent all of his Champions League bonus money on a new car – leaving former skipper Wise less than impressed when he found out.

Five-time Premier League winner Terry said: “I come in with my car and Wisey got me up round the throat in the corridor in front of everyone: ‘Who do you think you are? Go and take the car back.’

“So he made me go and take the car back, which I lost money on, took me around and helped me find a house, buy a house, so it was the best bit of advice.

“I was embarrassed at the time but it was the best bit of advice that I could have had.”

Wise had pushed the Chelsea hierarchy to secure the extra cash for Terry – as well as fellow youngsters Jody Morris and John Harley – despite their limited game time in the 1998-99 season.

So he was less than impressed when he learned that the young centre-back had blown all of his money on a fancy car.

With a wry smile, he set the record straight for SunSport on a Q&A with the club’s new shirt sponsor, Three.

He said: “I’ll tell you what happened, I worked extremely hard to get a bonus for the lads after we got to the Champions League.

“What happened was John and Jody and John Harley worked really hard, they were part of the squad, so they deserved to get a nice bonus.

Wise won two FA Cups, the League Cup and the Cup Winners’ Cup in almost 450 games for the Blues

“I made sure that they did and then he walks in with a flash car – I wasn’t too happy.

“I told him in certain ways this is not about that, you need to be sensible with the money you’ve just got and not waste it on a car.

“He chose to make the right decision…”

Wise, who played almost 450 games for the club and lifted two FA Cups, the League Cup and the Cup Winners’ Cup, added with a glint in his eye: “I wouldn’t say I had him round the neck.

“I just had my hand around his shoulders and walked him away and said this is not correct, don’t do that.

“I was only trying to help the young boys out and point them in the right direction.

“He took it well I’ve got to say, he did the correct thing.

“Not that he was forced or anything…”
