CLAUDE MAKELELE has declared his aim to become Congo’s national coach.

The Chelsea legend was born in the African country before moving to France.

The Frenchman was one of the best midfielders of his generation

Makelele, 49, spent five successful years in the Blues midfield before leaving in 2008.

He has recently been back at Stamford Bridge as a youth mentor and has also been an ambassador for DR Congo’s FA.

They have newly sacked national coach Hector Cuper following defeats in Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Gabon and Sudan.

And former Real Madrid star Makelele said he would relish the chance to take charge of the Leopards.

He told Canal Plus: “Speaking personally, I feel ready to manage the DRC national team.

“We all need to sit down together in order to restructure football in the Democratic Republic of Congo.”

Kinshasa-born Makelele left for France as a child, but is still highly regarded in the central African nation.

He has managed Bastia and Belgian club Eupen since hanging up his boots.

Makelele has also worked as a coach with Paris Saint-Germain and Swansea, and had a stint as Monaco’s technical director.
