Chelsea legend slams owner and young squad, jokes about past players joining Pochettino’s team

Former Chelsea star William Gallas has expressed his discontent with owner Todd Boehly and the current Chelsea squad.

Gallas, who won two Premier League titles with the Blues, believes that the team's young players are not equipped to achieve big things this season.

Board's failure

Gallas has scathingly criticized the board for failing to assemble the right team, despite spending a whopping £1 billion since taking over the club last year.

In an interview with Genting Casino, Gallas said, "There are only a few experienced players at Chelsea. The club has heavily invested in young talent, and they have spent so much money."

"When you spend that kind of money, you expect to sign players with accomplishments. I genuinely believe that Chelsea has failed. The board has failed again, and they won't achieve their season goals. It will be extremely challenging for Thiago Silva this year. He seems to feel alone because he knows the players are young and won't be ready to fight for the title this season. This team is for the future, not for now."

Chelsea's mistake

Gallas argues that Boehly made the mistake of thinking Chelsea can afford to let young players develop in the first team before they are fully ready.

He added, "Chelsea is not a club like Southampton or Brighton, where you give young players a chance to gain experience. This is Chelsea Football Club. They need players who can make a difference every single week.

"The people in charge of Chelsea before the new ownership knew what to do. They knew the best way to build a squad was to add one or two inexperienced players and allow them to learn and grow under the guidance of experienced players. Right now, Chelsea lacks experienced players, so how can the younger players grow? Who can they learn from?"

Legends claim they could still play

Gallas participated in a legends' charity match at Stamford Bridge with some of his former teammates. One of them even claimed they would perform better than the current Chelsea squad.

Gallas revealed, "I played in a Chelsea legends game last weekend, and I'll repeat what I heard. (John) Obi Mikel spoke to the press after the game, laughing and saying, 'I think some of these players are still good enough to play for Chelsea this season.'

"This shows that Chelsea is currently in trouble. It proves that some of these players are not ready to play for a club like Chelsea and lack the required quality."

The Blues have had a rocky start to the season, winning just one of their five Premier League games under Mauricio Pochettino. After finishing 12th last season, they currently sit in 14th place.

So far this term, Chelsea's only Premier League victory came against Luton, while they suffered defeats to West Ham and Nottingham Forest and drew with Liverpool and Bournemouth.
