SAM KERR struck twice as Chelsea maintained their iron grip on the WSL crown with their 3-0 victory crushing Reading hopes of top-flight survival.

Kerr’s opener and Guro Reiten’s cheeky nutmegged finish saw the Royals rumbled with the Blues cruising their way to a fourth successive league title win.

The result saw Emma Hayes’ side lift the WSL trophy for the sixth time while ending Manchester United’s hopes of a historic title triumph with the Red Devils.

And the defeat left Kelly Chambers relegated from the top tier with Reading returning to the Championship for the first time since 2015.

It was in December 2021 at home that the Royals ended their Blues hoodoo by claiming their first win against Chelsea at the 11th time of trying.

And they had a couple of promising early first-half forays up top with Deanne Rose, who scored in their win against the Blues, seeing her shot blocked.

But any hopes of the Royals pulling off a shock took an early blow with Kerr heading the visitors in front with her 11th goal of the season in the 18th minute.

Justine Vanhaevermaet had a golden chance to level moments later, but somehow directed her effort wide.

And her side’s afternoon went from bad to worse with Rose having to come off having just returned to match action from injury last weekend.

Hayes’ side doubled their lead with Reiten pouncing on loose ball from Easther Mayi Kith close to half-time.

The second spell saw the visitors comfortably in control with Pernille Harder and Magda Eriksson coming off to warm applause from Blues fans.

And Kerr wrapped up the win with her late finish as Hayes side clinched a third successive league and FA Cup double.
