Chelsea rescued as VAR rules out Ajax goal in Champions League clash and even Blues fans cant believe their luck

CHELSEA were rescued by VAR in the first half of their Champions League clash with Ajax – and even Blues fans couldn’t believe their luck.

Quincy Promes appeared to have fired the Dutch giants in front from Hakim Ziyech’s cross-shot in the 37th minute.

Chelsea were given a lifeline after Ajax had a goal ruled out for offside
Promes appeared to be onside in all the replays before VAR intervened

But incredibly, the goal was ruled out for offside by VAR, even though it looked to be onside from all the replays.

When the defensive “line” was drawn across the pitch, it did appear Promes may have had a fingertip offside.

But fans on Twitter could scarcely believe Chelsea had been given a lifeline – even Blues supporters felt for Ajax.

One wrote: “As a Chelsea fan….that should of been a goal to Ajax. These VAR reviews are getting out of hand.

“An arm being offside should not warrant an offside call.”

Another said: “Chelsea fan and thats just ridiculous…. been misusing our chances now we suck VAR.”

A third added: “As a Chelsea fan, gotta say VAR is a joke. No chance that was offside.”

One even claimed: “I’m a Chelsea fan but I must say that counting that Ajax goal as offside is best proof we need to get rid of it.”

But Chelsea fans weren’t the only football lovers with an opinion on the controversial call.
