Chelsea star N’Golo Kante wanted in Inter Milan transfer but Conte ‘must convince board to match £150k-a-week wages’

INTER MILAN’S pursuit of Chelsea star N’Golo Kante could be scuppered by the Frenchman’s wages, according to reports.

Boss Antonio Conte is keen to be reunited with the midfielder, who helped him secure the Premier League title during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Kante has made 27 appearances for the Blues this season

And according to Italian outlet Sport Mediaset, the 29-year-old would be open to the move – as they claim he sees his time at Stamford Bridge coming to a close.

In the way, however, would be the 2018 World Cup winner’s salary, they claim.

Kante is believed to earn around £150,000-a-week in West London – and is still contracted until 2023.

They go on to say that Conte, 50, will have trouble convincing Inter’s board to splash out that kind of salary on his key target.

While few would question Kante’s quality, the popular 5ft 6in midfielder has struggled with persistent injury woes this season.

Because of a succession of ankle and hamstring problems, he has featured in just 27 of the Blues’ 50 games in all competitions this term.

Boss Frank Lampard has already confirmed that he will again be without his No7 for tomorrow’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Manchester United at Wembley.

Conte, meanwhile, has been able to recruit a number of players since joining Inter a year ago.

Among these have been former Premier League stars Christian Eriksen, Ashley Young and Romelu Lukaku – as well as loanees Victor Moses and Alexis Sanchez.

And they have already begun planning for next season, having completed the signing of Achraf Hakimi from Real Madrid for around £40million.
