Chelsea stars wear branded shirts for Newcastle clash despite Three and Hyundai suspending £170m sponsorship deals

CHELSEA took to the pitch for Sunday’s game against Newcastle still wearing kit including former sponsors Three and Hyundai.

The Blues have lost tens of millions in sponsorship in recent days after Russian owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government.

Chelsea wore shirts with ex-sponsors Three and Hyundai on them despite deals being cancelled earlier this week after Roman Abramovich was slapped with sanctions

Telecom giants Three pulled their £40million-a-year shirt sponsorship.

And car manufacturers Hyundai have also distanced themselves from Chelsea, cancelling an agreement worth £10m-a-year.

Luckily for the European champions, kit makers Nike are maintaining their relationship with the club… FOR NOW.

The 15-year deal with the American company is worth a reported £900m.

But Nike are NOT the only brand on the Blues’ shirt today for Newcastle.

Loss of sponsorship isn’t the only way Chelsea are haemorrhaging cash.

The Blues can’t make money off match tickets or merchandise as a result of the sanctions imposed on owner Roman Abramovich.

Chelsea also cannot cash in on players to ease their financial concerns as they’re banned from buying and selling – as well as renewing contracts.

And the European giants have an eye watering £28m-a-month wage bill and reportedly has just over two weeks to find a new buyer or go into administration.

Chelsea stars may be forced to take EasyJet flights to games and stay in budget hotels.

The club have been given a £20,000 per-match limit for spending for away games – meaning they will have to ditch the luxuries.
