Chelsea step up Nick Pope transfer chase but Burnley boss Sean Dyche ‘wants £50m’ for England stopper

CHELSEA are ramping up their quest to nab Nick Pope from Burnley ahead of Frank Lampard’s second season in charge of the club

But the Blues target isn’t likely to be cheap with Clarets boss Sean Dyche reportedly slapping a £50million tag on his prized asset.

Burnley are reported to be after £50million for Chelsea target Nick Pope. The 28-year-old kept 15 clean sheets in the Premier League this season

Stamford Bridge boss Lampard is desperate to find a new keeper with club-record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga having fallen down the first-team pecking order.

The Spanish stopper was dropped in favour of Willy Callabero who featured in the London club’s dramatic 2-1 FA Cup final loss to Arsenal on Saturday.

Pope, who made 38 Premier League appearances for the Clarets this season, is the Blues’ No1 target according to the Daily Star.

And the Burnley stopper, who was rumoured to be a transfer target for Tottenham last year, is reportedly keen on a move to one of the giants in England’s top football division.

The 28-year-old, who kept 15 cleans in the league this term, was narrowly beaten by Manchester City goalie Ederson to this season’s Golden Glove prize.

The player is reportedly aiming to step up efforts to establish himself as England’s best goalkeeper.

It’s believed a move to one of the Premier League’s top sides could help the Clarets star rival Jordan Pickford as first choice for Gareth Southgate.

Twice-capped England player Pope has three years left on his contract with Burnley who finished tenth in the league.

Reports suggest this length of time remaining on his contract means a swoop for the highly-rated goalie isn’t likely to come cheap.

Chelsea transfer chiefs could be asked to cough up £50million to bring the former Charlton player back to South London.

It is claimed the Blues may be able to offer Burnley their asking price if they are able to sell their £71.6millon record signing Arrizabalaga.
