Chelsea turn attention to Villarreal’s Samu Chukwueze as Man Utd edge closer to Jadon Sancho transfer

CHELSEA could turn to Samu Chukwueze in their hunt for a new winger this summer, according to reports.

The Blues had been hoping to prise Jadon Sancho away from Borussia Dortmund in the coming months.

But with BVB refusing to drop their asking price, the West Londoners appear to have privately conceded defeat in the race to sign the much-coveted 20-year-old.

So with Manchester United now the overwhelming favourites to acquire Sancho, the Blues are having to consider other options.

And according to Goal, Villarreal livewire Chukwueze is one being carefully considered.

The 21-year-old has become a regular in LaLiga after coming through the Yellow Submarine’s academy.

Chukwueze regularly troubles defences with his outstanding dribbling ability, although his final ball could do with some refining – having provided four assists in addition to four goals this season.

And a move to Chelsea could be the perfect next step for the exciting Nigerian.

Boss Frank Lampard is believed to want a wide forward, particularly with Willian and Pedro’s contracts set to expire.

The Blues still have youngsters Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi – as well as the incoming Hakim Ziyech, but feel that they could still do with more options.

Crystal Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha has been mentioned, but the Eagles’ £80m asking price will rule Chelsea out of contention.

Another option is Porto’s Jesus Corona, with the Mexican’s agent Matias Bunge having confirmed to Medio Tiempo that contact has taken place with the Blues.

He said: “At some point we talked to them [Chelsea]. I cannot say if he’s option A, B or C, now they are rather rumours.”
