Chelsea’s Kepa breaks silence after Carabao Cup final penalty shootout howler against Liverpool with motivational tweet

KEPA ARRIZABALAGA has broken his silence after his penalty shoot-out nightmare against Liverpool.

The Spaniard, 27, was brought on for Edouard Mendy in the 119th minute in order to contest the penalty shoot-out.

But Thomas Tuchel’s move dramatically backfired when Kepa was unable to save any of the Reds’ 11 penalties – before spooning his over the bar to hand them victory.

The Chelsea boss refused to blame his goalkeeper after the match, insisting that the call was on him.

Although pundit Jamie Redknapp was more scathing of Kepa’s antics.

Last night Kepa took to social media to thank supporters… while defiantly claiming that he will rise again.

He wrote: “To fall and rise.

“Disappointed after big effort during the tournament. We keep working.

“Thanks @chelseafc family for your support.”

Tuchel had brought Kepa on in the 119th minute of August’s Super Cup showdown with Villarreal – with the backup coming up with saves from Aissa Mandi and Raul Albiol on that occasion.

He also denied Marvelous Nakamba in the third round victory over Aston Villa, as well as Ryan Hardie in the recent 2-1 FA Cup win over Plymouth Argyle.

After the game, Tuchel said: “I take the decisions when I take the decisions, I only take them when I want to take them. I cannot rejudge my decisions when I know the outcome. This is how it is.

“No blame on him. Blame on me. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it does not work out. This is life as a football coach who does substitutions.”
