CRISTIANO RONALDO got a shock view of the future after the Manchester United superstar was axed for the draw at Chelsea

Furious Ronaldo stormed down the tunnel at full-time after being benched by caretaker Michael Carrick.

The Portuguese superstar struggled as a second-half sub, and incoming Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick claimed he was ‘too old’ FIVE YEARS AGO.

Rangnick, poised to sign an initial six-month deal as interim chief, demands intense pressing from his teams.

United legend Gary Neville claimed the German influenced the line-up for the draw at Stamford Bridge.

Carrick opted for three defensive midfielders — Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic.

Neville tweeted: “A lot of people having a go at Carrick for dropping Ronaldo and picking that MDF.

“I’ve a feeling the incoming boss picked that team as it’s a huge departure from midweek.”

Neville added: “Having watched 1min I’m now convinced on influence on the team and style!”

Carrick later refuted the Rangnick theory, saying: “That’s not the case.”

But former Old Trafford captain Roy Keane waded into the Ronaldo row.

He insisted the veteran forward, 36 — who has scored ten goals for United so far this season — should have started.

TV pundit Keane fumed: “This was a big game for United. I’d forgive Champions League group games.

“But if you bumped into Ronaldo in the car park, you’d see a guy who has won everything and he’s come back to lift the club.

“If the ball falls to anybody in world football, even at 36, it’s Ronaldo. It’s not as if he’s come back and looked awful.

“Carrick is trying to give him a high-five — let him get down the tunnel.

“There’s nothing wrong with a player being upset.”

Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane was highly critical of United after the game

The Portuguese icon was booked for dissent at the end of the game.

And Ronaldo also stormed down the tunnel at Old Trafford after being benched for their 1-1 draw with Everton in October.

But he later tweeted: “There is still a long road ahead and nothing is impossible when you play for United. We will keep chasing our goals until the end!”

Jadon Sancho put United ahead before Jorginho levelled from the spot after Aaron Wan-Bissaka fouled Thiago Silva.

Carrick said: “Cristiano is probably our standout name — but it’s just a game-plan, ideas.

“I had a good chat with Cristiano, he was great, and we’ve decided to go like that today.

“We had a plan to stop passes they thread to Jorginho and Loftus-Cheek.”
