Crystal Palace Set to Make £10 Million Transfer Bid for Che Adams This Week… and Double His Southampton Wages

Crystal Palace is reportedly preparing to make an opening offer of £10 million to Southampton for striker Che Adams. The move comes after SunSport revealed last week that manager Roy Hodgson is interested in signing the Scotland forward.

A Stronger Squad for Crystal Palace

Having successfully avoided relegation last season, Hodgson has been assembling a young and exciting Crystal Palace squad. However, with Jean-Philippe Mateta likely to leave, the manager wants to add an experienced front man to the team.

Adams Fits the Bill

The 27-year-old Adams is seen as the ideal candidate. Despite starting on the bench in both of Southampton's opening Championship games, he has come on to score in each match, including a late winner against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. Adams is reportedly eager to return to the Premier League, and Crystal Palace is willing to offer double his current wages, amounting to around £60,000 per week.

Saints' Condition for Selling

Southampton will only consider selling Adams if they have secured a replacement first. Their top choice is Swansea's Joel Piroe. However, the 24-year-old striker is also wanted by other clubs and may opt to become a free agent next summer if necessary.

Hodgson Eyeing Saints Keeper

In addition to Adams, Hodgson is also interested in acquiring Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, as Vicente Guaita is looking to leave Crystal Palace. McCarthy, 33, previously played for the club and could make a return now that Southampton has signed Joe Lumley to compete with Gavin Bazunu.
