Crystal Palace want to give Gary Cahill new contract with TEN first-team players set to leave on free transfers

CRYSTAL PALACE are keen to sign up Gary Cahill to a new deal at Selhurst Park.

The former England star, 35, was one of TEN Eagles stars out of contract this summer.

Patrick Vieira is keen to keep Gary Cahill at Selhurst Park

Palace were waiting to appoint a new manager before making a call on whether to give any fresh terms – barring Christian Benteke who committed to another two years last month.

Patrick Vieira finally took over ten days ago and it is understood he wants to keep former Chelsea defender Cahill.

Right-back Joel Ward, 31, is also expected to be kept, particularly with Nathan Ferguson set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The South London club have been training at St George’s Park and free agent Nathaniel Clyne is still with them, though it remains to be seen if he will be retained.

Cahill, who won 61 caps for his country, said back in March: “I am totally relaxed about the situation myself.

“I am in a different situation to some (out-of-contract team-mates) in terms of their age. I am just looking to consistently try and perform at the level I want to be at.

“By the end of the season, as long as I feel as fit as I do now, feel as hungry to win games, go out and perform and train as I do now then for sure I’ll carry on playing.”

Cahill made 21 Premier League appearances last term netting one top-flight goal

Palace have signed winger Michael Olise and back-up goalkeeper Remi Matthews so far this summer.

It is expected that Matthews, 27, will be third-choice goalkeeper behind Vicente Guaita and Jack Butland.

The club are looking to bolster their centre of defence, central midfield and attacking ranks,
