Crystal Palace’s Bald Eagle Kayla dies of heart attack and is ‘finally reunited with her sister’ as club pay tribute

CRYSTAL PALACE’S trademark eagle Kayla has sadly passed away after suffering a tragic heart attack.

The beautiful bird swooping over Selhurst Park on matchdays became an iconic image in South London.

Kayla became a regular and beloved feature of the Selhurst Park matchday experience

She entertained crowds for ten years up to and including this season.

The Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation posted a heartfelt tribute to Kayla on their Facebook page.

It read: “It is with great pain and deep sadness that we must inform you, Kayla, our beautiful Bald Eagle, passed away after suffering a fatal heart attack.

“We thank every single person that had donated towards her veterinary bill and her care.

“It is thanks to you all that we were able to get her the very best treatment available and know that we did everything possible for her.

“She is now at peace. To say she will be missed is not enough.

“We are beyond grief and cannot think of our lives without her, but we try to take comfort from knowing she is no longer in pain and hope that she is soaring above us, finally reunited with her sister.

“Kayla. We will always love you x”.

Kayla will be sorely missed by all Crystal Palace

Palace themselves also posted a short tribute.

They tweeted: “We are deeply saddened to hear that Kayla has passed away. We will miss her sorely.

During her decade of soaring over Selhurst, Palace won promotion to the Premier League in 2013, before establishing themselves as a regular fixture in the English top flight.
