TOTTENHAM chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly considering plans to put Spurs’ ground staff who have not been furloughed to work on his private estate during the coronavirus pandemic.
The ground staff are continuing to maintain the pitch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but do not need to prepare it for match days with the Premier League suspended indefinitely as the COVID-19 bug continues to sweep the globe.
Spurs’ groundsman are also enjoying a lessened workload at the training ground in Enfield, which is also shut as players and the rest of the public self-isolate.
According to The Telegraph, Tottenham chief Levy is planning on using the ground staff to work at his private Hertfordshire estate.
However, Spurs are said to have insisted he would pay for the private use of the staff himself rather than with the club’s salary.
It comes as Levy and the Premier League giants came under fire for going ahead with 20 per cent wage cuts for their 550 non-playing staff during April and May, with around half being furloughed.
It means the British government will pay 80 per cent of their salaries despite the extraordinary riches in England’s top flight.
Mike Ashley, the owner of Newcastle who is worth around £2.3billion, was the first to make non-playing staff furlough before Spurs and European Champions Liverpool followed.
However, after facing major public backlash runaway league leaders Liverpool reversed their decision.
Levy and Spurs face the wrath of the public again after it emerged manager Jose Mourinho could face a police warning after he was spotted taking a training session on public parkland yesterday.
Pictures appeared to show the Spurs boss doing drills with three players on Hadley Common in North London.
An online video showed Davinson Sanchez and Ryan Sessegnon jogging around the same park much closer together than the government’s recommended two metres apart.
