Darwin Nunez ‘to miss Uruguay match’ to complete £80m transfer to Liverpool but Man Utd ‘trying to hijack deal’

LIVERPOOL target Darwin Nunez is reportedly set to miss Uruguay’s fixture tonight in order to get his move over the line.

The striker has been on Liverpool’s radar for a number of weeks, with them stepping up their interest in recent days over a deal that could be worth as much as £80million.

Nunez was prolific for Benfica last season

Now Uruguayan publication El Pais have reported the national team are aware of the situation, confirming Nunez will not be present for the match on Saturday.

Uruguay are getting ready to host Panama in an international friendly.

However the Benfica striker will not be present, as the Reds look to get the big-money move completed.

The forward is one of the hottest properties in world football after scoring 26 goals in 28 appearances in the Portuguese league last season.

Jurgen Klopp had already joked about the 22-year-old after he competed against the Reds in the Champions League.

When asked, the German poked fun at the striker’s good looks, whilst not forgetting to praise his immense talent after he backed a couple of goals across their quarter-final clash.

Klopp’s side are strong favourites to acquire Nunes’ services in what is already turning into a hectic summer transfer window.

However, arch-rivals Manchester United are reportedly looking to hijack the deal.

The Red Devils are believed to have been in contact with Nunez’s agent over a possible last-minute switch across the North-West.

However, Liverpool are understood to be Nunez’s favoured choice.
