De Geas Man Utd place under threat as Solskjaer wants Henderson to challenge out-of-form Spaniard for No1 spot

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER is ready to give Dean Henderson a chance to become his first-choice goalkeeper at Old Trafford following his impressive loan spell at Sheffield United.

This is Henderson’s second year at Bramall Lane and he has given Solskjaer a decision to make after an unspectacular period for David de Gea.

This season has been an impressive one for Dean Henderson but David de Gea has struggled for Manchester United

The Spaniard, 29, has come under increasing scrutiny after his howler in the 2-0 defeat before Christmas.

Manchester United fans have called for Henderson to come back into the frame following that mistake.

According to the Athletic, Solskjaer could be ready to make a change and give the Englishman a chance to prove his worth.

Henderson has been consistent since joining Chris Wilder’s side and his performances have tempted the Old Trafford boss to give him a chance.

A decision to bring the 22-year-old back in would mean tough competition for the Spaniard and could help him rediscover his fine form from previous seasons.

United signed Burnley goalkeeping coach Craig Mawson in a bid to help De Gea get back to his best.

The mistake against Watford hasn’t been the only one the 29-year-old has made this season.

His weak punch saw Everton take the lead in the 1-1 draw last month.

De Gea, who has won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award four times, recently signed a long-term 375,000-a-week contract, keeping him at the club until 2023.

But only three clean sheets this season will be a worry for Solskjaer as he prepares for two busy transfer windows.

De Ge was rested for Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Wolves, with Sergio Romero performing admirably in his absence.

The Argentine has also featured in all of United’s Carabao Cup games this season and could keep his spot for tomorrow’s semi-final first leg against Manchester City at Old Trafford.
