Medical Today
Manchester United's Dean Henderson is on the verge of completing a permanent transfer to Crystal Palace. The 26-year-old shot-stopper is set to have his medical today and will sign a five-year contract at Selhurst Park.
No1 Shirt Up for Grabs
Despite the hefty £20m price tag, Henderson will not automatically be handed the No1 shirt at Palace. He will have to battle it out with Sam Johnstone for the coveted spot.
End of a 12-Year Spell
Henderson's move to South London marks the end of his impressive 12-year stint with Manchester United. During his time at Old Trafford, he continually challenged David De Gea for the starting position.
Impressive Journey
The academy graduate joined Manchester United at the age of 14 and made his senior debut in 2015. He has since gone on six loan spells at various clubs, including Stockport, Grimsby, Shrewsbury, and Sheffield United. His standout performances at Bramall Lane earned him his first and only call-up to the England national team in 2020.
Replacing Vicente Guaita
Henderson will be stepping into the shoes of Vicente Guaita, who is expected to leave Crystal Palace after a falling out with manager Roy Hodgson. Guaita refused to play in pre-season friendlies, leading to his departure. Henderson's arrival will add strength and competition to the goalkeeping position.
New Signings and Target
Crystal Palace has also made other notable signings this summer, including Jefferson Lerma and Matheus France from Flamengo. However, they are still on the lookout for a replacement for the departed Wilfried Zaha. Leicester's Kelechi Iheanacho and Paris Saint-Germain's Hugo Ekitike are key targets for manager Roy Hodgson.
United Searching for Backup
Meanwhile, Manchester United is in the process of securing Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir as a backup option for their new signing Andre Onana. This move will provide Henderson with the opportunity to shine at his new club without any lingering expectations of an immediate starting role.
