Defiant Emery shuts down reporter when asked about Mourinho replacing him as Arsenal boss

A DEFIANT Unai Emery shut down a reporter who asked him about the possibility of being replaced by Jose Mourinho at Arsenal.

The Special One has been out of work since being sacked by Man Utd in December 2018 and has been linked with the Arsenal and Bayern Munich jobs.

Emery is not concerned about the looming possibility of being replaced by Mourinho

Mourinho was even spotted at the Emirates for their game against Vitoria last month – a thrilling 3-2 win for the Gunners.

But after another disappointing draw on Wednesday – letting a 1-0 lead slip away to Vitoria in the Europa League – Emery was asked if he was worried about being sacked.

The Spaniard seemed utterly unfazed, roaring: “I am the coach.”

That was the only moment of any real conviction from anyone relating to Arsenal on another wildly sub-par night for the Gunners.

Shkodran Mustafi had given the Londoners a 1-0 lead with ten minutes to play with their only shot on target for the entire game.

Arsenal failed to register a single successful pass into the Vitoria box from open play

But they fell apart defensively as they allowed Bruno Duarte to score despite packing the box with eight defenders.

Once again it was Arsenal’s distinct lack of creativity that ultimately led to their downfall.

The Gunners completed 88.3 per cent of their 579 passes in the game – but they failed to complete a single ball into Vitoria’s box from open play all game.

Despite the lack of a plan B, 25million summer signing Kieran Tierney revealed Emery has the backing of the entire squad.

The Scottish full-back said: For me, the manager has been brilliant ever since I arrived in England.

“Everybody in the changing room has belief in the manager and in each other.

“I am learning a lot every day working with great players and I am really enjoying the managers style of play. He likes to keep the ball and play with a possession-type game.

I am working on my technique with him, on my passing, my crossing and everything in general.

He is definitely helping to make me a better player and now it is up to me and the other players to correct results on the pitch.
