Diego Simeone admits Arsenal target Thomas Lemar is a flop and his agent is working hard to secure transfer

ATLETICO MADRID boss Diego Simone has revealed Arsenal target Thomas Lemar is trying to secure a move away as he admitted the winger has been a flop.

The French international looks set to depart the LaLiga outfit before the end of the month after a miserable time of it in Spain.

Thomas Lemar looks set to leave Atletico this month

Atletico splashed out 55million to Monaco to bring the 24-year-old winger to the Wanda Metropolitano in 2018.

But he has failed to reach the same form that earned him that transfer and now Simeone is open to selling him.

The Gunners are believed to have contacted super-agent Jorge Mendes to help them broker a deal.

And Chelsea, Tottenham and Wolves are also all keen on Lemar, but they are believed to only be interested in a temporary arrangement.

Atletico would rather recoup some of their huge outlay on the attacker, a figure his manager admits the ace has failed to justify.

Simeone, 49, said: The facts speak for themselves, better than words.

It is certain that he has not been able to show all his qualities.

Each time that he has been available, I have tried to play him.

I have always been enthusiastic about his qualities as a player.

He has not met the expectations set for him, but we have always had the same expectations.

Today, who is to know if he will stay or not.

His representatives are working hard. The clubs, they operate on what they need.

The latest reports from France claim Lemar is reluctant to come to the Premier League.

He is keen to stay at Atletico, where he has appeared 21 times this campaign but failed to score a single goal.

Lemar could feature against Eibar tomorrow night as Simeone’s men return to domestic top-flight action.
