EFL confirm just three positive coronavirus tests out of 1,030 players and staff from two clubs in latest report

THE English Football League have confirmed three people from two clubs have tested positive for coronavirus.

It has been revealed that 1,030 players and staff from the EFL have been tested this week.

EFL players and staff that tested positive will not be allowed to the training ground

Fulham have confirmed that two of their players are among those that tested positive for Covid-19.

The players and staff that have contracted coronavirus will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines set by the EFL.

A statement from the EFL read: “Following the latest round of COVID-19 testing, the EFL can confirm that 1030 players and Club staff have been tested over the course of Monday 25, Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 May, with three individuals testing positive from two Clubs.

“Those players or Club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines provided by the EFL and only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities.

“The EFL will continue to make regular and relevant announcements as appropriate in respect of the testing programme to support competition integrity and transparency.

“No specific details as to Clubs or individuals will be provided by the League.”

The 71 clubs in the EFL are set to decide in the next few days how to conclude the 2019/20 season.

Most of the teams in the Championship want the season to be completed in full behind closed doors.

 

Some clubs in the league have returned to training in small groups with the hope of matches being played by the end of next month.

It comes after the Premier League confirmed four people from three clubs tested positive for coronavirus.

A total of 12 positive test results in total have been recorded in the top-flight after three rounds of more than 2,700 tests.
