Emmanuel Petit latest Arsenal legend to slam club and reveals he is trying to ‘detach myself, so I don’t get worked up’

ARSENAL great Emmanuel Petit has stuck the boot into the misfiring Gunners – insisting he simply does not care about them any more.

The north Londoners have made their worst start to a league season for 46 years.

Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit says he’s trying to distance himself from the club
The Gunners are six games without a win and down in 15th in the Premier League

Mikel Arteta’s men have not won for six Premier League games, and lie 15th following Wednesday’s 1-1 home draw with Southampton.

Petit won a league and FA Cup double during his three years at Highbury, and said Arsenal are one of only two clubs he truly loves.

However the 50-year-old World Cup winner said years of mismanagement and failure have killed off his interest in their fortunes.

Petit told French broadcaster RMC: “This may shock you. Arsenal, together with Monaco, are one of the clubs I love.

“But it’s a few years now since I have gone beyond the stage of resentment at them and fallen into a state of apathy.

“It is simply the logical result of what has been happening for years, with bad management by the Arsenal board and bad decisions during the transfer windows.

“Even more than that, it is the content and the image presented by their team in terms of personality and character.

“Yes, resentment has given way to apathy.

“These days I try to make as big a distance as I can from them – so I don’t get worked up about them any more.”

An Arsene Wenger signing from Monaco in 1997, Petit scored 11 goals in 116 Arsenal appearances.

He went on to play for Barcelona and Chelsea before retiring in 2005.
