Erik ten Hag compares Antony to Chelsea legend as boss insists he can shine for Man Utd… despite only having ‘one trick’

ERIK TEN HAG has compared Manchester United star Antony to a certain Chelsea legend.

And he insists the Brazilian can continue to shine despite only having “one trick” in his locker.

Erik ten Hag believes Antony can shine for Man Utd despite having just ‘one trick’

Ten Hag has compared Antony to Chelsea legend Arjen Robben

Antony, 22, got a goal and assist as United cruised past Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Sunday.

The former Ajax man has endured a mixed debut season in England.

But his latest showing proved he has what it takes to eventually live up to his £82million price tag.

Antony will now be hoping to fire United to the Europa League semis when they face Sevilla on Thursday.

And boss Ten Hag, who managed Antony at Ajax, believes the forward is a similar player to ex-Chelsea star Arjen Robben.

The Dutchman won two titles in three years at Stamford Bridge to become a firm fan favourite.

He went on to enjoy success with Real Madrid, winning a title there too.

And Robben then landed eight titles with German giants Bayern Munich, as well as the 2013 Champions League.

Ten Hag hopes Antony can improve his finishing when he cuts in on his left foot

Ten Hag believes like Antony, Robben too only had “one trick” up his sleeve.

The 96-time Holland international loved cutting in from the right wing onto his left foot before blasting the ball into the net.

And Ten Hag believes Antony just needs to find the confidence to improve his technique in order to get near Robben’s stunning career record of 246 goals.

But he adds Antony is young enough to still develop his right foot for “more variation.”

The United boss explained: “I’ve seen Arjen Robben a lot. They say he has only one trick, but that trick was so brilliant no one can stop it.

“We have to emphasise if you can go both ways you have more variations, you are more difficult to stop.

“He knows that when you are a striker, you need end product but he already has eight goals in all competitions this season.

“There is only a split moment where you have to take that decision. He has to step up. Today was an example where, with both goals, he made the right decision.”
