Ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger ‘got satisfaction’ from Liverpool blowing Invincibles chance with Watford defeat

ARSENE WENGER has revealed he was delighted Liverpool’s bid to emulate his unbeaten Invincibles went up in smoke.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds looked set to go through the entire Premier League campaign without a loss – but that all imploded in February when they crashed 3-0 at lowly Watford.

Arsene Wenger was pleased Liverpool slipped up at Watford and failed to emulate his 2003/04 Arsenal Invincibles side

It meant, Wenger’s old Arsenal side’s astonishing record was still unique.

The Gunners went through the whole 2003/04 season without a defeat, winning the Premier League title in fine style.

Wenger’s trailblazers – with a stunning side containing the likes of Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Sol Campbell – have gone down in history as arguably the greatest Premier League team of all time.

But that record looked set to be broken by the Reds juggernaut this term – with the Merseysiders not only emulating Arsenal’s record but accumulating far more points.

Klopp’s men had gone 26 games unbeaten – winning 25 – before crashing at Nigel Pearson’s transformed Hornets.

And that delighted Wenger.

He told beIN Sports: “”Yes, it was very satisfying when I saw Liverpool lose.

“You always want to be the only one to do something.

“Liverpool could really have made it.

“But this just goes to show how difficult it is to repeat this feat.

“At least I received a lot of messages from Arsenal supporters on that day. ”

The Reds bounced back with a win over Bournemouth and are still on track to smash the points record.

They could finish with 109 points if they win their last nine games.

The Gunners might have remained unbeaten but they accumulated 90 points after 12 draws.
