Ex-Chelsea troublemaker Diego Costa, 34, signs with Botafogo after being released by Wolves

Diego Costa, the former Chelsea star, has officially completed a move to Brazilian club Botafogo.

Last season, the 34-year-old striker played for Wolves but struggled to make an impact, scoring only one goal in 25 appearances before being released.

Diego Costa has joined Botafogo

Back with his former manager

Diego Costa was signed by his former manager Bruno Lage, who is now in charge of Botafogo.

Costa has signed a short-term deal with the Rio-based club, which will keep him there until the end of the season.

Botafogo is currently leading the Brazilian Serie A standings by 16 points after 19 matches.

Upon joining Botafogo, Costa expressed his excitement, saying, "I'm very happy to have been chosen to be part of the family. Thanks and I see you soon."

A homecoming for Costa

This move is a homecoming for Costa, as he was born in Brazil and previously played for the national team twice before switching allegiances to Spain.

Throughout his career, Costa has gained notoriety for his controversial antics on the pitch.

Premier League bad boy

Diego Costa's time in the Premier League was marked by his bad boy reputation.

He was sent off last season for headbutting Brentford's Ben Mee and had previously received a three-match ban in 2015 for two stamp incidents on Liverpool players.

Despite his disciplinary issues, Costa achieved success at Chelsea, winning the Premier League title twice in 2015 and 2017. He scored 59 goals in all competitions during his three seasons at the club.

His time at Stamford Bridge came between two spells at Atletico Madrid.

In addition to Chelsea, Costa has also played for other clubs such as Braga, Celta Vigo, Real Valladolid, Rayo Vallecano, and Atletico Mineiro.
