Ex-Leicester ace Marcin Wasilewski set to become CAGE FIGHTER after Premier League winner’s retirement from football

PREMIER League winner Marcin Wasilewski is poised to swap titles for takedowns…by becoming a CAGE FIGHTER.

The tough-guy Polish defender spent four seasons with Leicester, and played in the Foxes’ epic 2015-16 campaign.

Centre-back Wasilewski retired from football earlier this month after three years with Wisla Krakow.

The 40-year-old is a longtime mixed martial arts fan, and has attended numerous bouts in Poland.

He has now been tipped to fight fellow footballer, ex-Bolton and Hearts defender Blazej Augustyn.

Polish fight promoter Mateusz Borek said: “I know Marcin’s sporting career is not yet over.

“I think one of the MMA organisations will convince him to enter the cage.

“I know that this has always been Marcin’s dream.

“People have said it would be a good fight between him and Blazej Augustyn.”

Wasilewski overcame a serious leg injury playing for Anderlecht before joining Leicester in 2013.

Borek added: “I have respect for his entire career, and the way he overcame his fate.

“To rise up again after what an opponent did to him in the Belgian league deserves a world title.”

Wasilewski helped Leicester win the Championship title in 2014.

He failed to collect a Premier League winner’s medal in 2016, making one appearance too few for the five-game minimum, but played 77 times in all for the King Power club.

The Krakow-born hardman won 60 Poland caps, and also played for Lech Poznan.
