Ex-Man Utd ace Mikael Silvestre blasts Jamie Carragher over spitting at fan in stinging attack over Luiz criticism

FORMER Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has hit out at Jamie Carragher following his spitting shame.

The Frenchman launched the attack on the Sky Sports pundit on Twitter following Carragher’s criticism of David Luiz.

Luiz endured a disastrous 28-minute cameo on Wednesday night when he was at fault for Man City’s opener.

He was then shown a straight red card after conceding a penalty in City’s 3-0 win over Arsenal.

After the game, Carragher suggested that fans are unlikely to see Luiz perform in the Premier League ever again.

And seemingly unprovoked, it sparked a reaction from Silvestre who wrote: “We all thought the same after he spat at football fans but he is back… spitting at football players.”

Carragher was suspended by Sky Sports in 2018 after video footage caught him spitting at a Manchester United fan from his car window.

His spit ended up hitting the guy’s 14-year-old daughter in the face.

There were calls for Carragher to be sacked but he apologised and was later offered his role back alongside Gary Neville.

Last year he revealed how his spitting shame “will haunt him for the rest of his life.”

He said: “A guy was trying to get a funny video of me.

“It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last time.

“I’ve never reacted like that before, I had come out and I was just driving along and I actually thought it was a Liverpool fan.

“So I put my window down as if to say ‘Hiya, mate. You OK?’

“And then I get a little bit of abuse and listen it wasn’t nothing major, he was just a normal fan gloating about the win.

“It carried on about two or three times and I just snapped, can’t explain why I did it.

“If I could take that back, it will probably haunt me for the rest of my life.

“As soon as I got home I told my wife, I knew straight away, I just thought ‘oh my god.’

“My wife was unbelievable for me.”
