Fans puzzled as Neal Maupay is spotted wearing different socks to rest of Everton team-mates against Newcastle

NEAL MAUPAY was spotted wearing the wrong socks during Everton’s defeat to Newcastle leaving fans baffled.

The former Brighton striker has struggled to make a meaningful impact since moving to Merseyside in the summer.

Neal Maupay was spotted wearing different colored socks to his team-mates against Newcastle

However, Maupay is seemingly still adapting to his new team as it appeared that he wore the wrong socks.

He came onto the pitch in the 73rd minute of the game but was wearing blue socks, whereas his team-mates were all wearing white ones.

Fans on social media were quick to spot the gaff and were confused as to how it was made.

One said: “Why has Maupay got blue socks on?”

Another said: “Was thinking the same – weird.”

Some fans saw the funny side of the incident, as one said: “He’s wearing the kids kit. Only comes with the blue socks.”

Another said: “That’s as exciting as our attacks get.”

A third said: “He could be wearing fluorescent pink and he still wouldn’t be found by our playmakers.”

Maupay was bought by the Toffees for a £15million fee but so far he has not repaid the club’s expenditure on him.

The French striker has only managed one goal in his five Premier League appearances for the club.

Everton have improved after a poor start to the season but the defeat to Newcastle has left them in 15th place in the table, one point above the relegation zone.

Miguel Almiron‘s stunning effort helped the Magpies to the three points at St James’ Park.

The three points have lifted Eddie Howe‘s side up to 6th place in the table, just two points off the top four.
