Five players who Man Utd could axe this summer to make up for crippling debts including Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard

MANCHESTER UNITED have some pretty lofty ambitions for this summer’s transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping to sign the likes of Jadon Sancho, Kalidou Koulibaly and Jack Grealish.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may offload some big-name stars this summer

But with the club in real debt, players will need to be sold before they can even consider bringing anyone in – let alone £100million-rated Sancho.

First and foremost, players MUST be sold – and they will have to be some big names, too, if Solskjaer is going to land a host of established stars.

Take a look at five possible Man Utd stars who could face the swing of the axe…

PAUL POGBA

Paul Pogba’s time at Man Utd is surely up

THIS is almost an inevitability at this stage, isn’t it?

Pogba announced his desire to quit Old Trafford for a “new challenge” last summer – yet somehow is still at the club.

The World Cup winner has played just seven times in the Premier League this season.

And with both Real Madrid and Juventus hoping to sign him, United could be around £100m better off if they opt to sell.

JESSE LINGARD

Jesse Lingard looks likely to face the axe this summer

WHILE unlikely to command a fee anywhere near that of Pogba, it’s the end of the line for Lingard at Man Utd.

Fans have grown weary with the former England international’s performances and lack of consistency.

There’s little doubt Solskjaer will look to move him on this summer for anywhere upwards of £20m.

It’s a drop in the ocean for a team who are also hoping to sign Saul Niguez and James Maddison, but every little helps.

DAVID DE GEA

David De Gea’s incredible stint at Man Utd could be coming to an end

MAN UTD have fought tooth-and-nail to cling on to De Gea down the years – once even relying on Real Madrid’s dodgy fax machine…

Despite all the talk of a mega-money move and his partner being unhappy in Manchester, the Spaniard has remained a United player.

However, since penning his most-recent contract, De Gea’s performances have been uncharacteristically inconsistent and error-strewn.

And with Dean Henderson absolutely on fire at Sheffield United, Old Trafford chiefs should seriously consider flogging De Gea while his stock is still reasonably high.

There will likely be plenty of suitors for the Spaniard and it’s likely Man Utd could grab at least £40m for him.

ANTHONY MARTIAL

Man Utd could sell Anthony Martial to raise funds for new signings

UNITED fans thought they’d signed the next big thing when Martial joined from Monaco – and he really has shown promise.

However, the flashes of brilliance have been few and far between and you can hardly blame his age for that any more, now 24.

With Harry Kane a rumoured summer arrival, United will need to make some big money – and quickly.

Selling Martial could easily see them rake in around £50m and with Marcus Rashford ready to lead the line if Kane doesn’t come, they could cope without the Frenchman.

ERIC BAILLY

Eric Bailly has seen his Man Utd career wrecked by injuries

INJURIES have blighted Bailly’s career at Old Trafford and the time is nigh to move him on.

With Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof forging a decent centre-half partnership at Man Utd, Bailly is surplus to requirements if he can’t stay fit.

United will be hoping to recoup at least the £30m they paid for him, but with his injury history that may be some ask.

Axel Tuanzebe’s emergence as a solid option now back at Old Trafford is hardly helping Bailly’s cause either.
