Aston Villa’s Coutinho Accepts Loan Deal with Al-Duhail

Philippe Coutinho, who has been on the sidelines at Aston Villa, is reportedly on the verge of joining Qatari club Al-Duhail. The 31-year-old has accepted a loan deal with the Middle Eastern team after rejecting offers from European giants.

Coutinho to Depart as Qatar Transfer Window Remains Open

The move is still in progress as Qatar's transfer window does not close until September 18th.

Loan Spell From Barcelona Made Permanent

Coutinho initially joined Aston Villa on loan from Barcelona in 2022, working under former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard. The move was made permanent last summer for around £17 million.

Lack of Game Time and Squad Depth Pushes Coutinho Further Down the Pecking Order

Following a disappointing 2022-23 season, where Coutinho managed just one goal and no assists and featured sparingly, the Brazilian midfielder has dropped further down the pecking order in Unai Emery's squad. The recent arrival of Moussa Diaby and Coutinho's hamstring injury have contributed to his lack of game time.

Agreement with Al-Duhail in the Works

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Al-Duhail is closing in on a deal for Coutinho. The agreement, which involves a loan move from Aston Villa, is expected to have the player's salary covered.

Past Interest from Besiktas and Real Betis

Coutinho had received interest from Turkish side Besiktas and Spanish giants Real Betis before the potential move to Al-Duhail.

Al-Duhail's Impressive Start to the New Season

Al-Duhail, based in Doha, Qatar, has made a perfect start to the new season with two wins from two matches, leading to their current position at the top of the table. Although the squad does not boast many household names, Portuguese defender Ruben Semedo stands out as one of their most famous players.

Coutinho's Career Highlights

Brazilian international Coutinho made a name for himself at Inter Milan before signing for Liverpool in January 2013. He enjoyed a successful five-year spell at Anfield before his £145 million transfer to Barcelona. However, his time at the Nou Camp did not go as planned, leading to a loan at Bayern Munich before returning to England to play for Aston Villa.
