JULIAN DRAXLER, once touted as an Arsenal target, has completed a surprising move to Qatari side Al Ahli SC.
The Deal
The former Paris Saint-Germain winger has signed a two-year contract with Al Ahli SC after a £7.8 million deal was agreed.
A Promising Start, but a Struggling Journey
Draxler, 29, was once regarded as one of Europe's most promising players when he made his breakthrough with Schalke back in 2011.
However, after a stint at Wolfsburg in 2015, where he only stayed for one season, Draxler made a big-money move to Ligue 1 giants PSG in 2017, despite rumors linking him with a move to Arsenal.
His time at the Parc des Princes proved to be underwhelming, as he struggled to find his best form. Last season, he was sent out on loan to Benfica.
Surprise and Amusement from Fans
Draxler's move to Qatar surprised fans, some of whom were even unaware that he was still playing football.
On Twitter, one fan exclaimed, "This guy still plays football?" while another admitted, "I'm not gonna lie, I completely forgot about him."
Other comments included "Forgotten footballer," "What a forgotten star," and "He's still playing football?"
Interestingly, Arsenal fans took to social media to celebrate the fact that the club was not linked with a move for Draxler this summer.
It remains to be seen how Draxler will fare at Al Ahli SC and whether this surprise move will bring him a fresh start in his footballing career.
