Former Chelsea Midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko Finds New Club on Free Transfer

Frenchman Returns to Football

Tiemoue Bakayoko, the forgotten ex-Chelsea midfielder, has made a return to football by joining a new club. The 29-year-old Frenchman was released by Chelsea earlier this summer after a disappointing two-year loan spell at AC Milan.

A New Start for Bakayoko

With a year still remaining on his Stamford Bridge contract, Chelsea decided to mutually terminate it, giving Bakayoko the opportunity to find a new club on a free transfer. The midfielder had attracted interest from several Italian clubs, but he has chosen to return to his homeland instead.

Move to Lorient

Bakayoko has agreed to a two-year contract with Lorient, a Ligue 1 club in France. Lorient recently signed Benjamin Mendy from Manchester City and have now secured Bakayoko's services. He could make his debut for the team this weekend against Le Havre.

Bakayoko's Excitement

In an interview, Bakayoko expressed his satisfaction at returning to Ligue 1 with a club like Lorient, which he describes as ambitious. He is looking forward to meeting his new teammates and the supportive fans.

Bakayoko's Journey

Bakayoko previously played in France with Rennes and Monaco before making a £40 million move to Chelsea in 2017. His time at Chelsea saw him play 43 times under Antonio Conte. Since then, he has had loan spells at Milan, Monaco, and Napoli. It is unlikely that he will be earning the same wages as his time at Chelsea, where he earned £120,000 per week.

Lorient, who finished 10th last season, has had a decent start to the season with one win and two draws.
