FORMER Tottenham Hotspur owner Lord Alan Sugar last night led calls for Mauricio Pochettino to return to the North Londoners after another dreary performance.
Spurs laboured to a 0-0 draw against an AFC Bournemouth side without a win since the restart.
The Lilywhites rarely threatened the Cherries, who had conceded nine goals in their last two games and sit deep in relegation trouble.
And Tottenham were fortunate to get anything from the match at all, with Eddie Howe’s side being denied a last-gasp winner by VAR.
During the match, Lord Sugar tweeted: “Come on wake up Spurs”.
And in the immediate aftermath he called on their popular Argentine former boss to return.
He wrote: “Come back Poch !”
Tottenham’s dire football and poor results have also led to calls for manager Jose Mourinho to be sacked after eight months in the job.
“JoseOut” trended after the match – and following Sugar’s tweets some fans even jokingly called for him to buy the club again.
One wrote: “Mate can you just buy the club, you have so much dollar lying around mate come on help us out.”
And another quipped: “Get together a few of your boys and buy the club”.
It all seems to be too much for this chap: “IM ON MY KNEES PLEASE TAKE THE CLUB AND BRING IT TO GLORY I BEG LORD SUGAR”.
In his five-and-a-half year spell in North London, Pochettino guided Spurs to their best ever Premier League finish, as well as through their spell at Wembley while their new stadium was built.
The 48-year-old even managed to drag his team to last season’s Champions League final, despite having not signed a player in a year-and-a-half.
But following the first poor run endured in around five years, chairman Daniel Levy decided to ruthlessly pull the plug on by far his best appointment while at the helm.
Within 12 hours he appointed Mourinho on a £15million-a-year contract, with the 57-year-old fresh from sackings at Manchester United and Chelsea.
Things have hardly improved, if at all, with the once self-proclaimed “Special One” having won just 13 of his 31 games in charge.
Should Tottenham lose to Arsenal on Sunday, in what will be the first North London derby at their new stadium, they will be staring down the barrel of finishing below their rivals for the first time since 2016.
Defeat would also see even Europa League qualification look difficult… and potentially edge Lord Sugar toward getting his wish…
Fans will get the opportunity to watch how the events of Mourinho’s appointment unfolded in the upcoming Amazon documentary, although those of a Spurs persuasion may want to watch from behind the sofa.
