WITH 2020 rapidly approaching, the 2010s are almost over – with just a handful of games to go.

But what a decade it has been for football across the world.

Brazil’s 7-1 thumping at the hands of Germany at their own World Cup is one of the moments of the decade

Steven Gerrard’s title-defining slip is one of the moments of the 2010s

City took over from United in Manchester, Leicester won their first Premier League, Brazil were humiliated at their own World Cup and Liverpool still couldn’t quite grab league title No19.

But what do SunSport’s team of reporters believe to be the best moments, goals and matches of the decade?

Olivier Giroud’s scorpion kick in 2017 gets one vote for Goal of the Decade

Gareth Bale’s acrobatic effort from the 2018 Champions League final also gets a mention

CHOOSING the best strike in a ten-year span is a nigh-on impossible task, with stunners in World Cup, Premier League and Champions League just a few.

But we’ve done our best to choose the creme de la creme of wondergoals from the 2010s.

Olivier Giroud’s outragous scorpion kick against Crystal Palace on New Year’s Day 2017 stuck in the mind of Dan King.

Rob Maul picked Sergio Aguero’s last-gasp strike to win Man City their first Premier League crown in 2012.

Peter Crouch’s worldie against Man City that same year is Neil Custis’ selection, with our man calling it a real “wow moment”.

Martin Lipton has gone for Gareth Bale’s sensational overhead-kick in the 2018 Champions League final against Liverpool.

Benjamin Pavard’s outrageous technique to score for France vs Spain at the 2018 World Cup gets the nod from Andrew Dillon.

Finally, Paul Jiggins has gone for a somewhat leftfield shout, with Joe Thompson’s goal for Rochdale vs Charlton after twice beating cancer taking his pick.

MATCH OF THE DECADE

Spurs’ thrilling win over Ajax in 2019 gets a vote for Match of the Decade

Liverpool’s sensational comeback vs Barcelona this year also get a vote

WITH so many to choose from, this one is bound to divide opinion across the globe.

But Dan King has selected Liverpool’s rollercoaster 5-4 win over Norwich at Carrow Road in 2015-16, with Adam Lallana’s 95th-minute winner sparking one of Jurgen Klopp’s most-incredible, frenzied reactions.

Rob Maul has opted for Brazil’s 7-1 humiliation at the hands of Germany at their own World Cup in 2014.

Meanwhile, Man City’s 2-1 win over Liverpool to all-but secure the 2018-19 Premier League crown has taken Neil Custis’ vote.

Martin Lipton and Andrew Dillon have both gone for Tottenham’s stunning 3-2 win at Ajax, citing “the enormity of Lucas Moura’s last touch” as a key factor in their Champions League semi-final.

Liverpool’s loss to Chelsea in the dying embers of the 2013-14 season, after Steven Gerrard’s slip seemingly cost the Reds their first Prem crown, gets Paul Jiggins’ vote.

Sergio Aguero’s QPR goal has gone down in footballing folklore

BILLIONS of moments… how do you pick just one?

Well, Dan King, Martin Lipton AND Neil Custis have all selected the “AGUEROOOOO”, title-clinching moment against QPR in 2012 as their No1.

Patriotic Rob Maul has gone for England reaching the World Cup semi-final in 2018 – and with it capturing the heart of an entire nation during a rocky political period.

Liverpool’s sensational Anfield comeback against Barcelona en route to winning their sixth Champions League crown has taken the top spot for Andrew Dillon.

Paul Jiggins, in what he’s calling the “Moment of the Century”, is West Ham throwing away a 2-0 lead against Wigan on the final day of the 2010-11 Premier League season as Millwall fans paid to fly a plane over the stadium at the very moment the Hammers were relegated.
