Girl, 15, suffers head injuries after being hit by full plastic pint pot ‘full of coins’ at Man City and Liverpool game

AN investigation is underway after a plastic cup “full of coins” hurled by football thugs left a 15-year-old-girl with head injuries.

Greater Manchester Police are looking into the incident at Manchester City’s Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool on Thursday.

The projectile was hurled from the Liverpool section at the Etihad stadium down onto fans below – injuring another person

The father of the City fan said his daughter had to have her head glued after being struck by the pint pot “weighted with coins”.

The projectile was hurled from the Liverpool section at Man City’s Etihad stadium down onto fans in the South Stand – injuring another person.

Paramedics assisted both of those hurt in the horror.

Taking to Twitter, David Cornwell said his daughter has been left with “a scar for life” in the wake of the “horrible” incident.

He added that she was now ok but had been left “really shook up” from the “awful experience”.

Liverpool and City have both vowed to issue bans to supporters where necessary.

The incident was just one of a number that exploded at the game which saw Man City beat Liverpool 3-2 in their round of 16 cup match.

GMP’s match commander, Superintendent Gareth Parkin, said: “We are aware of a number of objects, including coins and a smoke bomb, that were thrown during the match.

“We will be investigating the incidents and reviewing CCTV from the night.

“Clearly throwing objects in a confined area can be dangerous, and have serious and sometimes devastating consequences.

“GMP sends it’s thoughts and wishes to the girl who was injured and wish her a speedy recovery.”
