Jurgen Klopp is reportedly keen on signing Joao Gomes

The Brazilian has responded to rumours linking him to the club telling ESPN: “Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play.

“Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream in football.”

The 21-year-old plays for Flamengo in his homeland and is capable of playing as a defensive midfielder or further up the pitch.

Despite his young age he has already racked up 106 appearances for Flamengo scoring three goals.

Gomes played a key role as the Rio based club won the Brazilian league title in 2020 – in the first season he broke into the team.

Many believe poor midfield displays are one of the reasons behind Liverpool’s slow start to the current season.

They have reacted by adding Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus to the squad on deadline day.

But younger legs could still be needed with the likes of Thiago, Jordan Henderson and James Milner all north of 30-years-old.

Additionally, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are into the final year’s of their contracts.

A potential Liverpool midfield re-build could be underway with the club also reportedly keen on Jude Bellingham.

The Reds’ last two Premier League games have been postponed and they are set to be back in action after the international break versus Brighton.
