How Atletico Madrid could line up with Cristiano Ronaldo in deadly attack as Man Utd star ‘closes in on transfer’

CRISTIANO RONALDO could form a lethal attack with Antoine Griezmann at Atletico Madrid.

Reports emerged this morning that the star has reportedly convinced Diego Simeone to bring him to the Spanish club.

Cristiano Ronaldo could be lining up for Atletico Madrid next season

How Atletico could start the season with the Portuguese legend

The Real Madrid legend, 37, is desperate to leave Manchester United this summer and play Champions League football.

Ronaldo still has one year remaining on his Old Trafford contract but is yet to return for pre-season training with the Red Devils.

Now Diario AS are claiming that Ronaldo could be about to return to Spain with Atletico.

He shot to superstardom with their rivals Real Madrid, scoring 311 goals in 292 LaLiga matches between 2009 and 2018 and won the Champions League four times.

And that made him public enemy No1 with their neighbours Atletico – but now he could be about to sensationally join them.

The report states that his representatives have spoken with Atletico boss Simeone and persuaded him to make a move to get Ronaldo back to Madrid.

It also adds that Simeone loves Cristiano and has always called him the “number 1” player.

He also believes that his signing would be as successful as Luis Suarez’s arrival in 2020 – although he thinks the Portugal ace could have a greater impact from both a sporting and commercial viewpoint.

And that means that the veteran could be partnering French forward Griezmann in attack for Atletico next term.

Simeone has already bolstered his attack by signing Samuel Lino from Gil Vicente.

And the Brazilian winger, 22, would be the man tasked with providing the ammunition for the star-studded strikers.

With Jan oblak in goal, the Atletico defence is already renowned for being a tough nut to crack with their three centre-halves.

But they look set to be even stronger following the arrival of Axel Witsel.

The 33-year-old midfielder would offer the likes of Stefan Savic, Jose Gimenez and Reinildo Mandava extra protection as he sits behind the midfield.

And that would allow the Koke, Rodrigo De Paul and Marcos Llorente to help support the forward line in what would look like a very strong outfit.
