How Chelsea could line-up against Man Utd in FA Cup as Lampard looks to change up midfield after recent struggles

FRANK LAMPARD is faced with a number of tough calls over his Chelsea team to face Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Sunday’s trip to Wembley comes after a number of unconvincing performances from the Blues, who are also fighting United for a place in next season’s Champions League.

A 1-0 win over Norwich kept Chelsea in the top-four but was far from the clinical performance Lampard would have been hoping for.

Coming off the back of a devastating three-goal defeat at Sheffield United, the manager’s attempt to squeeze more out of his side was not fully convincing.

With a settled front-three, Lampard’s midfield and defence are very much under question.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho and Matteo Kovacic started on Tuesday evening but N’Golo Kante’s return from injury puts their spots under threat.

Dropping in the Frenchman for Loftus-Cheek would perhaps be more of a defensive approach, especially when considering United’s dangerous playmakers Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba.

Similarly, Chelsea could turn to Ross Barkley and Mason Mount to provide more of an attacking emphasis in the FA Cup semi-final.

Marcos Alonso returned to the side that beat Norwich and his inclusion on Sunday will be decided in the similar attack-versus-defence decision facing Lampard.

Moving Cesar Azpilicueta to the left-back position and starting Reece James at right-back is arguably a more steadfast approach, although the academy product is less experienced in big games.

James, Kovacic and Jorginho were all picked to start in Chelsea’s February loss to United in the Premier League.

Finally, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger are facing off for the two centre-back spots and Kepa Arrizabalaga may be rotated out for cup goalkeeper Willy Caballero.
