How Chelsea could line-up against Tottenham in Carabao Cup semi-final with Lukaku and Werner BACK but Chalobah OUT

ROMELU LUKAKU and Timo Werner could return to Chelsea’s matchday squad to face Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semi-final, but the Blues will be without Trevoh Chalobah.

Boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed Werner trained in the build-up to Wednesday’s first leg.

Forgotten man Sarr could start for Chelsea

He said: “Timo Werner trained yesterday, we have one more session to go and he feels much better which is a really good sign.

He took part in full training, at full intensity and had no reaction at all.

“If today’s training goes well for him then we will look to have him on the bench and maybe give him some minutes.”

And Lukaku could be handed the chance to repay fans after apologising for the ‘upset’ his interview with Sky Italia caused.

The Belgian striker last week said he would ‘100 per cent still be at Inter’ if they’d offered him a new contract, riling Blues fans and causing him to be dropped for the 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

Speaking directly to the camera on Tuesday evening, Lukaku said: “To the fans I’m sorry for the upset I caused.

“You know the connection I’ve had to this club since my teenage years, so I totally understand you guys being upset.

“It’s up to me now to restore your trust and I’ll do my best to show commitment every day on the training ground and to try and win games.”

The Blues will, however, be without star Chalobah and Andreas Christensen is a doubt.

Tuchel confirmed: “Andreas is a doubt for tomorrow.

“Trevoh is definitely out for tomorrow because he has had a reinjury from before.”

With Edouard Mendy off to the Africa Cup of Nations, Kepa is certain to start.

Malang Sarr, Antonio Rudiger and club captain Cesar Azpilicueta could start in defence.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Marcos Alonso could be Tuchel’s flying wing-backs.

Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho may man the midfield.

And the front three could consist of Hakim Ziyech, Lukaku and Christian Pulisic.

Kante could be called in for the big occasion

Alternatively, Pulisic and Hudson-Odoi could swap positions.

Havertz could start if Tuchel decides to ease Lukaku back into the squad from the bench.

And N’Golo Kante could start for the big occasion.
