I Could Have Played Alongside Lewandowski: Former Premier League Star Regrets Choosing England over Poland

Former Premier League star, Andy Johnson, has expressed regret over his decision to represent England instead of Poland, as he believes he could have played alongside Polish superstar Robert Lewandowski.

The Missed Opportunity

Johnson, who earned eight caps for England, revealed that he could have played for Poland due to his Polish family heritage. Johnson's maternal grandfather is Polish, and he had been in contact with the Polish FA, with a real chance of representing Poland.

However, when England came calling, Johnson felt there was no decision to be made. He said, "the call came from England, and when you weigh the two up, at the time, for me, there was no decision for me, really."

What Could Have Been

Although Johnson didn't manage to score a goal for England in his eight caps, he believes his career could have been different if he had played alongside Lewandowski for Poland.

Johnson stated, "If I wouldn't have been called up by England, I look back now in hindsight and think I could've played for Poland. Gone to two World Cups, two European Championships and played alongside Lewandowski… he could've been the perfect person to play off."

Dreaming of Poland

Despite representing his home nation, Johnson admitted that he would trade his career with England for the chance to play for Poland alongside Lewandowski. He said, "Would I trade my career with England for a chance with Poland if I could go back and change things? Potentially."

Johnson emphasized that every footballer has aspirations of playing in major tournaments and on the biggest stages. He added, "So would I trade my eight appearances for England… for two or three major tournaments, maybe sat on 10 international goals in major tournaments, playing alongside Robert Lewandowski? Yeah, I think I would."

The Legend of Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski, Poland's all-time top goal scorer, has scored an impressive 81 goals in 144 appearances for his country.

An Impressive Club Career

Johnson, who had an impressive club career, scored a total of 143 goals in 458 appearances for Everton and Fulham.
