I’m England star who spent nine years at Arsenal and earned £13million… now I’m unemployed at 25

AINSLEY MAITLAND-NILES is looking for a new club after nine years at Arsenal and 132 appearances.

The ex-Gunner was admired by all his former managers for his work rate and versatility.

Maitland-Niles won an FA Cup during his time at Arsenal

Maitland-Niles played at full-back, wing-back, winger and central midfielder.

And those qualities also caught the eye of Gareth Southgate, who picked him five times for England in 2020.

During his almost decade-long spell at Arsenal, Maitland-Niles picked up around £13m in career earnings, according to Capology.

He would also win the FA Cup in 2020, along with two Community Shields.

Upon leaving the club, he said: “Words can’t describe how I’m feeling to be honest, it’s been a very emotional journey.

“Having supported the club growing up and coming through the ranks, I can only be happy with what I’ve achieved since I’ve been here.

“I’ve seen a lot of players come and go and played with a lot of fantastic players throughout my time here.

“Unfortunately, it has to come to an end, but I’ve been happy every single moment I’ve been here to play and work for this club.

“The trophy wins would probably be the best moments for me, obviously some of the domestic seasons weren’t so great but at least I got to win some trophies with the club that I love.

“The FA Cup final was a fantastic day that will always stick in my mind, and I was happy to be a part of the team that won it.”

Maitland-Niles’ last year on Arsenal’s books saw him relegated with Southampton in an ill-fated loan spell

The utility man was relegated with Southampton last season while on loan

Maitland-Niles won the Conference League while on loan at Jose Mourinho’s Roma

Maitland-Niles also got the chance to play under Jose Mourinho during a six-month loan at Roma in January 2022, where he would make 12 appearances and help the club to the Conference League trophy

But he may look less fondly on his other two loan spells.

In 2021, he joined struggling West Bromwich Albion, but failed to save the club from relegation to the Championship.

And last season he spent a season on loan at Southampton.

However, this loan would have the same outcome with the Saints relegated from the Premier League after 11 years.
