‘I’m so happy’ – Arsenal ace Gabriel Martinelli loving Alexandre Lacazette partnership since Aubameyang axed

ARSENAL ace Gabriel Martinelli is loving his new partnership with Alexandre Lacazette.

The Brazilian has been given a run of games after Mikel Arteta axed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and has repaid the Spaniard with goals.

The pair have been flourishing in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s absence

Martinelli, 20, scored twice as Arsenal thrashed Leeds 4-1 at Elland Road in the Premier League’s only Saturday game.

It came after he opened the scoring in the Gunners’ 2-0 home win over West Ham on Wednesday night.

And the speedy winger is loving getting a run in the team.

Speaking after the Leeds win, he said: “Today we were good away from home.

“I think we did our job and we played so well. It was a great performance.

“I was trying to score more but the most important thing is the victory.

“I’m so happy. Five games in a row [starting] I’m trying to give my best on and off the pitch.

“We know how difficult the Premier League is. We need to play well every game and try to win every game.”

Lacazette has been temporarily promoted to captain after it was stripped from Aubameyang.

The Gabonese returned late from a trip abroad and Arteta has now frozen him out completely.

Frenchman Lacazette, set Martinelli up for his Elland Road opener and put the Gunners 1-0 up against Southampton – his first game as stand in skipper.

And Martinelli says the pair have a good thing going.

He said: “He always attracted the centre-back and I had the chance to go in behind.

“We’re doing well.”

Arteta was delighted with his team’s performance after the game with Arsenal picking up their third consecutive Prem win and cementing their place in the top four for now.

And he reserved particular praise for Martinelli.

The Spaniard said: “Huge. That’s why you have to prepare a player.

“You can’t throw in a player when he’s not ready.

“He has so much still to improve. He’s very humble. His big passion in life is football.”
