INTER MILAN fans turned out in force to get a glimpse of the returning Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku arrived in Milan for a medical today after Chelsea agreed a £6.9million fee to ship the 29-year-old out on loan.

And Lukaku grinned broadly as he waved to adoring fans from the window of the Italian Olympic Committee’s headquarters in Milan.

The Chelsea flop waved and gave a thumbs up to the crowd who had defied a warning from Inter Ultras NOT to welcome Lukaku back to the club.

Scorned Curva Nord fanatics urged fans not to “run and drool” after Lukaku following his return.

Instead they claimed he will have to earn their affection back with “humility and sweat”.

Nevertheless a large group gathered outside the building where Lukaku headed for his Inter medical today to give him a warm welcome.

The car that Lukaku arrived in was also mobbed by fans after the Belgian jetted to into Italy this morning.

He held up an Inter scarf as he touched back down on Italian soil less than a year after he left to join Chelsea for £97.5m.

In a clip shared by Dazn, Lukaku said “I’m very happy to be back” when quizzed by reporters on his return.

Although Lukaku still has some way to go before he gets back in the good books of the Inter Ultras.

The group wrote last week: “Curva Nord supports Inter and will not make any objection to the player (despite last summer’s behaviour).

“Given this no one should go to welcome him with scarves or banners of the Curva or of the groups that compose it.

“Everything that will eventually be done towards him in the future will have to earn it on the pitch with humility and sweat …

“He was supported (and treated) like a King, now he is one like many others.”

They went on to write: “Let us also be clear to everyone that we will never cheer against Lukaku if he wears the Inter shirt again.

“However, we invite all Inter fans not to fall into the opposite trap, that of running immediately and drooling after him.

“In addition to a clear instinctive emotional aspect, pretending that nothing has happened would only give a further acceleration to that process that has been going on for years aimed at making us all stupid and supine consumers.”
